My Artistic Impulse

Having worked with children and adolescents for many years  I have often been struck by how they can be brimming over with vitality, enthusiasm and impulsiveness. To capture this inner world with a gesture in a portait has been a long pursuit. Even more elusive is the play of color, the drama of light and darkness that strikes me with such brightness when the landscapes I am emersed in,  call out; Hey! Look at me. This happens often when I am staying at the seaside, resulting in many seascapes among my paintings. Of course we all have some idea of the inner world of fellow human beings, but the inner world of the landscapes that surround us, well they remain a mystery. Yet the mood and drama continues to be new and different each day. It draws me to paint and to seek to show its momentary mood.
